The Ombudsman acts as the independent watchdog dealing with public complaints and information rights in the Cayman Islands.
The Office of the Ombudsman follows the merger of the Office of the Complaints Commissioner (OCC) and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), and the appointment of Ms. Sandy Hermiston as the Ombudsman for the Cayman Islands on 13 September 2017.
The Office of the Ombudsman has powers in these areas:
Complaints about Government Unfairness, Complaints about the Police, Whistleblower Disclosures
Freedom of Information
This website will be a work in progress for the immediate future as it is being reviewed and revised. The links to the websites of the OCC and ICO will remain functional to ensure continuity during the transition.
Any ongoing business regarding complaints of maladministration and freedom of information appeals continues as usual. The new Ombudsman and her staff look forward to continuing to serve the people of the Cayman Islands.
